Planning for a week that belongs to other people
The particular difficulty of planning as a mother is that most of your week is not yours to schedule. School runs, lift clubs, sports, doctor appointments and whatever the school announces on two days’ notice — a planner that assumes you control your own time is useless.
These layouts assume the opposite. The weekly planner has open space per day rather than an hourly grid, because your day is defined by fixed collection times with unpredictable gaps between them.
Get the household out of your head and onto the wall
Most of the mental load is not the doing, it is being the only person who knows what is happening. The single-page monthly planner is the cheapest fix available: one page on the wall, one colour per person, everybody’s commitments visible.
It sounds trivially simple. It removes an extraordinary number of questions directed at you.
Meals decided once instead of daily
The 5pm decision is exhausting because it is made while tired, hungry and surrounded by people who are also tired and hungry. Deciding seven dinners on a Saturday takes fifteen minutes and removes the decision entirely, and the grouped shopping list means one shop rather than three.
Check the freezer before planning. Two meals built from what is already there generally pays for the planner in the first week.
Something that is only yours
The journals in the range exist partly for this. Not as another task — there is no streak to keep and no day numbers — but because being the reliable one for everybody is its own kind of tiring, and a few pages where nobody needs anything from you is worth having.
The gentle-clarity journal is fifteen pages on purpose. It is meant to be finishable in a season where very little is.
Print, do not manage
Print a fortnight at a time and stick it up. Nothing here needs an app, a login, notifications or a subscription you will forget about. It is paper, deliberately.
